This year marked the 2nd annual SunshinePHP Developer Conference in sunny and warm Miami, Florida put together by the South Florida PHP User Group. The conference was held in early February and most PHP developers jumped at the chance to head to warmer climates.
This years SunshinePHP hosted a full tutorial day with 8 x 3 hour tutorials followed by a two day conference featuring 30 sessions of 1 hour talks and 5 keynote spots by PHP community leaders. It broke new ground by offering a full fourth track of 10 uncon talks and a 24 hour hack-a-thon.
The goal for this event was to hit 250 attendees and, the yellow elePHPant “Sonny” specially created for the conference was a smash that brought people from all around the globe to hit the number for what is shaping up to be a HUGE international annual event for the PHP community.
The sponsor area, featuring 12 leading companies, was bustling constantly due in-part to the side requirement of each sponsor posting developers and developer/evangelists at the booths, rather than the normal booth salespeople. This led to making the area very “sticky” for developers who willingly talked with other developers on how to use technologies boasted by each vendor, while also providing valuable leads for the sponsors who’s investment helped make the conference happen.
For more information on the sessions, you can check out the slides and reviews of all the talks.
